A WOMAN has opened a designer fashion boutique in memory of her late mother.

Debbie Stock, 53, opened her shop in Slaithwaite to achieve her mum’s life-long dream. Debbie’s mum Alicea Jane Ditchfield died aged 76. Mrs Ditchfield had worked in fashion for most of her working life. She was employed by John Lewis in Liverpool for many years and continued to work in a boutique until she was 72.

Debbie, who has opened the Alicea Jane Boutique in Britannia Road, said the venture was a tribute to her mother.

“Mum had always wanted her own shop, but never had the courage to give it a go,” she said.

“She died a year to the day to when we opened the shop. I wanted to turn the anniversary into a positive day rather than a sad one. It was an emotional day, but a happy day.”

Debbie, who also runs Th’Alma pub in Linthwaite, said she had chosen Slaithwaite because of its potential.

“It’s an up and coming village,” said Debbie, “and we’ve been really well received. I hope we’ll be very successful,” she added.
