THE queen has gone … long live the queen.

Girl power still reigns supreme for a Holmfirth theatre group.

After a dozen years as chairman of Turn Again Theatre, Gwen Parr announced she would step down at the company’s annual meeting at Thongsbridge Tennis Club last Thursday – and has been succeeded by Lisa Kendall.

Mel Brockway (secretary) and Loretta Skelton (treasurer) were re-elected to complete an all-girl top team.

Gwen said: “In many ways it has been a lifeline for me, but I felt it was time to go. I wish Lisa every success and I am confident she will take the group forward.”

Lisa paid tribute to her predecessor and added: “I am extremely passionate about Turn Again Theatre, having been involved since 1992 – albeit with an eight years break from AmDrams whilst my kids were young.

“I have proved myself to be extremely organised and committed, having worked both on stage and behind the scenes.”

Lisa has produced and directed the group’s last two record-breaking pantomimes The King’s New Clothes and The Snow Queen and now wants to devote time this year to acting.

Turn Again Theatre’s schedule for 2012-2013 will be:

May: Breezeblock Park by Willie Russell, directed by Meg Plummer.

October: A Christmas Carol (The Scrooge Story), directed by Linda Williams.

January: Peter Pan, written by Paul Cousins and co-directed by Franki Hackett.

The venue for all the productions will be Holmfirth Civic Hall.
