ROADS that are never swept, drains never cleaned. The extremes of climate are due to climate change, we are told, hence the severe floods that Huddersfield and district have just experienced.

Council tax will be rising and the services less. Bring back the good old days, when roads and drains were cleaned, and litter bins were used by children, who received discipline at home and school.

Today dog owners (the irresponsible ones) allow their dogs to foul pavements and do not pick it up and take it home. Britain is getting into a dirty nation.

Generous giving

I AM writing to thank all Argos customers and staff who generously donated funds to Leukaemia Research Argos Charity of the Year at the collection in the Huddersfield Argos Stores on January 19.

The collection, held to mark the launch of the spring/summer Argos catalogue was a real success raising £187.33. Leukaemia Research relies entirely on donations, so it was excellent to see the local community helping us to fundraise to help save the lives of blood cancer patients.

Our thanks to you once again
