A social Enterprise which brought the UK’s largest music lending library to Huddersfield is on tune for success.

The service relocated from Wakefield to Red Doles Lane, Huddersfield, last year and now houses over half a million music scores and orchestral sets.

The Yorkshire Music Library provides music to over 2,000 choirs and orchestras nationwide.

This month sees the launch of the library’s new online reservation system.

The service’s owner, Yorkshire Libraries and Information, is a consortium of 12 councils which inherited the library from the West Riding, and it has received a number of bids to run the music collection.

The group decided that Huddersfield provided the most ideal solution and that the collection would be managed by Fresh Horizons Ltd which has extensive experience of managing library facilities in Yorkshire.

Mike McCusker, Fresh Horizon’s managing director, said: “As a local social enterprise we are delighted to support the Yorkshire Library and Information Council in ensuring this important cultural resource continues to serve community groups who play such a crucial role in enriching the lives of their members and audiences across the area and beyond.”

Rosalyn Wimpenny, project manager, said: “We have made great strides over the last 12 months to maintain this valuable service.

“We understand that the library is no longer a public browsing facility and have therefore strived to provide easier ways for customers to see what we have in stock by making our catalogue available online.

“We are now really excited about our new reservation system where customers can now also order what they need online as well as browse the catalogue.”

Customers are being offered a 10% discount on orders placed before January 6; 20% for customers who have not ordered since July 2012 and a whopping 40% off for new members of the music library.
