AS a young lifesaver Vicky Atkinson is at the top of her game.
But Vicky, who has won the Royal Life Saving Society’s Young Life Saver of The Year, will have to wait for her 16th birthday before she can start saving lives for real.
Vicky, from Meltham, was granted the award at the London Guildhall in June for her work at Bingley Life Saving Club.
The Honley High School pupil trains at the Bingley club and teaches her skills to newer members.
But because of laws governing life saving, the 15-year-old will have to wait until she’s 16 before she can work as a lifeguard at swimming pools.
Vicky’s dad Clive said: “Vicky’s been life-saving since she was eight.
“She liked swimming, but she wanted something more involved than time trials.
“She’s really proud of her achievements and so are we.
“When there’s people complaining about the youth of today she’s a good role model.”
