LAST year’s inaugural Colne Valley Conker Championships was a smash hit for young and old alike.

More than 30 competitors from toddlers to pensioners flocked to Marsden and took aim in a bid to be crowned the Colne Valley’s top conker conquerer.

This year, fans of the ancient art will gather at high noon in Slaithwaite village centre and duel for nothing more than the honour of being able to say they smashed their opponent’s conker to smithereens.

Organiser, Mick Smith of the River Colne Project, said there had already been a fair bit of interest in the event adding that it was just for fun this year.

It will be split into kids and adults sections and takes place, at 12 noon on Sunday, October 19, at the circular car park by the canal in the middle of Slaithwaite.
