Achievements of young people were celebrated at a special awards evening at Dewsbury Town Hall.

The event, organised by Kirklees Council’s Integrated Youth Support Service, highlighted a year of success from local people aged eight to 19 years.

Guests, including the Deputy Mayor of Kirklees Clr Paul Kane, enjoyed an evening of live dance, drama and music performed by the young people.

Among those showcasing their talents were from Fieldhead at Birstall; the Yard Project from Lowerhouses Lounge; finalists in the Children and Young People Now awards; and Spen Valley Young Leaders. Clr Jean Calvert, Kirklees Cabinet member for children’s services, said: “This event aims to promote the stories that are never told and to showcase the positive contribution that young people make to their local communities.”
