THE United Church at Marsden was busy with its annual Scarecrow Weekend.

The church was packed for a coffee morning with children’s activities and games. Local uniformed organisations and the school were also involved. Children’s groups from Marsden each submitted a scarecrow.

The Marsden After School Club made a Scary Fairy. During the all age/family service the congregation thought about the image of the scarecrow - a ‘distorted image of a person meant to scare away the birds so that crops could grow’. This was linked to the parable of the seeds and the soil and the need to never distort the image of Jesus.
