Spirit of the Games

HUNDREDS of youngsters channelled their Olympic spirit for a fun day of games. More than 300 junior school pupils took part in a “Get Set Day” at Shelley College. The children, all year three pupils from across the Kirkburton and Scissett areas, were split into 16 different groups named after Olympic and Paralympic athletes to promote the 2012 London Games. Each group, which consisted of children from a mixture of schools, took part in four different activities led by sport co-ordinators and leaders from Shelley College, Scissett Middle and Kirkburton Middle. The activities included football skills, throwing and catching games, and track and field events. The event involved a closing ceremony lap run by Olympic torchbearer Kevin Blackburn, who used to attend the College.
