POLICE UPDATE: Pcsos from the Valleys have been involving schoolchildren from the area in a new speed initiative.

The children have dressed in yellow jackets and police helmets and used the pro-laser speed gun. Officers have then stopped the offending vehicles and the children have advised the drivers accordingly. Police are hoping to run this initiative in the Holmfirth area in the near future.

News Roundup: Police have issued an urgent appeal for Information on "purse dippers". Two arrests have been made this week by the Valleys Neighbourhood Police Team in connection with the recent spate of thefts from persons in Honley and Holmfirth. The arrests involved an eastern European male and female. They have been preying on the elderly and removing purses while out and about shopping. Although the two persons have been arrested in connection with the theft police are urging people to take extra care when out in busy shopping areas, making sure they zip up their handbags and never leave them unattended on the back of a shopping trolley.

Burglary: Burglaries continue to remain low in the Honley and Brockholes area. The local Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT) has been, and is continuing to work hard to reduce the number of burglaries in the ward. High visibility patrols are being conducted in the ‘hotspot’ areas. Anyone wishing to have a free home security check can contact Pcso Hollick on 01484436855.

Vehicle crime: There have been no thefts of motor vehicle in the Honley area this week, but a vehicle on Roundway had its tyres slashed. Anyone with any information please contact your local NPT on 0148436855.

Anti Social Behaviour: Officers from the Neighbourhood Policing Team continue to patrol ‘priority areas’ around Honley and Brockholes, paying particular attention to The Peoples Park, Honley, the Recreation Park, Jagger Lane, the new skate park next to the cricket club and Victoria Park, Brockholes. Anyone with information please contact the valleys NPT on 01484 436855.

Parking on Pavements: This problem continues. Over recent months there has been an increase in vehicles parking on pavements, particularly around schools. This not only causes an unnecessary obstruction but also forces pedestrians with pushchairs or wheelchairs into the road to pass. Police will deal positively with any vehicle that is parked on a pavement causing an obstruction.

PACT meetings: These will be held at the Honley Library, Thirstin Road, Honley, between 6 and 7pm next Monday and every first Monday in the month.(except bank holidays).

11th May, 1st June, 6th July, 3rd August, 7th September, 5th October, 2nd November, 7th December.
