KIND-hearted youngsters have shown their support for a children’s charity.

The children, parents and staff at Portland Nurseries gathered toys in the run-up to Christmas and these were donated to the Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice at Birchencliffe to help boost its toy appeal.

Children at the nurseries – based in Edgerton and Lindley – built a sled and donned festive outfits to show off the toys they collected.

A total of 14 large sacks of toys were donated to the charity’s shops. These were then sold in the hospice’s 11 stores, which are located throughout West Yorkshire.

Leoncia Murphy, communications manager at Portland Nurseries, said: “It has been wonderful to see the families that attend our nurseries have donated so generously to the hospice at this special time of year. We were overwhelmed by the amount of toys donated and look forward to many more fundraisers with the charity in the new year.”

Last year toys proved popular in the hospice’s charity shops and this led to an appeal for help from the public to donate any toys they had. These could be either new or previously loved.

Mick Prescott, the charity’s regional operations manager, said: “Receiving this great amount of quality toys from Portland Nurseries really is appreciated by everyone here at Forget Me Not. A huge thank you must go out to everyone who has donated toys and, of course, to those buying the toys.”
