A 20-YEAR-OLD man got a hug from his brother as a judge locked him up for dealing in crack cocaine on the streets of Huddersfield.

Hamed Hussain, of Clara Street, Hillhouse, was yesterday sent to a young offenders’ institution for three-and-a-half years after police found just over £1,000 worth of the Class A drug in Market Street, Paddock, last July. Bradford Crown Court heard the drug had been hidden under the gear stick of the rented Vauxhall Astra and inside the car’s cigarette lighter. Recorder Alistair MacDonald QC commended the officers for finding the stash.

Hussain, who had no previous convictions for drugs offences, admitted possessing the cocaine with intent to supply on the basis that he had run up his own drug debt and was forced into street dealing to pay it off.

At the time of his arrest police seized £365 in cash from him.

Hussain pleaded guilty to further charges of possessing criminal property, possession of skunk cannabis and possessing a machete which he threw into a nearby garden as he tried to escape that night.

Prosecutor Stephen Wood said Hussain’s 25-year-old brother Sheraz, also of Clara Street, was arrested during the same incident and he was found to be in possession of a lock knife.

He admitted possessing a bladed article and was given a community order for 12 months with a requirement that he performs 100 hours unpaid work for the community.

After Recorder MacDonald locked up Hamed Hussain for his involvement in what he described as “a pernicious evil”, he was hugged by his brother in the dock before being led away to start his sentence.
