Work has begun on clearing disused land in readiness for a job-creating industrial development.

Mechanical equipment has been brought onto the 2.73-acre site at Colne Bridge Road, which has planning permission for six industrial units with office accommodation along with a car park and service yard.

It follows the sale of the site by nursery products firm Mamas & Papas to Bradford-based property company Frank Marshall Estates.

At the time of the sale last year, Marshall Estates said the development of a “high quality employment park” could create up to 100 jobs and tackle “a distinct lack of high-quality and flexible industrial units in the Huddersfield area”.

The company said there was demand from small-to-medium-sized businesses seeking practical and modern premises combining warehousing and distribution space with office facilities.

Plans approved by Kirklees Council show the units ranging in size from 2,500sq ft to 10,750sq ft with 35 parking spaces and access off Colne Bridge Road.

The site is in an area already established as an industrial and warehousing location with nearby occupiers include Mamas & Papas, engineering firm VTL and textile company CJ Antich.

It is also close to the former waste water treatment works at Colne Bridge and Bradley, which Yorkshire Water sister company Keyland Developments, plans to turn into 75,000sq ft of industrial space with the potential to generate up to 200 jobs.
