Gunpoint robbery in Lockwood

A man was robbed at gunpoint in Lockwood.

The victim was getting out of his car on North Street on Tuesday when one suspect approached him with what he believed to be a handgun, demanding money from the victim.

Fearing for his safety, the victim handed over his bag which contained over £1,000 and a mobile phone.

A second male was standing nearby as a look out.

Both suspects ran off through a garden on North Street.

The first suspect is described as an Asian male, 5ft 9”, slim build and in his early 20’s.

The second suspect is described as around 5ft 9”, slim build and wearing a balaclava.

The attack happened between 11.30am and 11.45.

Detective Constable Kris Roberts of Huddersfield CID, said: “This was a terrifying incident for the victim who was threatened with what is believed to be a handgun. Thankfully he was not injured during his ordeal, but is very shaken up.

“I would like to appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time who may have witnessed this incident or recognise the descriptions of the two suspects.

“Anyone with any information is asked to contact myself at Huddersfield CID via 101 quoting reference number 13160343215 or contact independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”

More fast food!

This certainly has a lot of you talking - plans are in place for two new Drive Thrus - including a Burger King - on Leeds Road.

Robert M Thorpe said on Facebook: “Four drive though restaurants within half a mile. Theres gonna be a lot of lazy fat people on Leeds Road!”

M62

There are reports of a lane blocked due to a broken down vehicle on the A58 at M62 junction 26 for the M606 (Chain Bar).
This is on the Chain Bar Interchange and affecting traffic leaving the M62 joining the M606.

Bus services

Traffic reports suggest the road may not be open again until early evening. Buses on routes 590 and 592 are running short and turning at Modena Business Park.

Man was in his "early twenties"

Reports are claiming that the man who died in an earlier incident in Hebden Bridge was in his early 20s.

The man is said to be local and his family have been informed, according to reports.

Man's body found in Hebden Bridge

Police have informed us that the serious incident on Burnley Road is due to the body of a man being found.

Officers were called around 11.26am today to the road near Hebden Bridge following the discovery.

Early indications are that there may have been a motorcycle collision near the scene.

Road closures are in place between Station Road at Hebden Bridge and New Road at Mytholmroyd and expect to be in place for some time.

Enquiries are at an early stage and are ongoing to determine the full circumstances of what has happened.

M62 plus road closures

M62 is very slow eastbound around Chain Bar - watch out if you’re heading towards Leeds.

Another travel update. Burnley Road in Hebden Bridge is CLOSED in both directions. There’s queueing traffic due to serious accident between Station Road for Hebden Bridge and Caldene Avenue, Mytholmroyd.

We’ve been informed that this is likely to remain closed well into the afternoon.

If you’re heading eastbound, the previous incident between junction 19 and 20 has now been sorted with traffic clearing.

A thank you from police

Police have release an update and message of thanks after Calderdale pensioner Granville Muir was found yesterday.

Mr Muir was found safe and well, although a little dehydrated and fragile at 7.45pm on Wednesday in a field off of Scarr Bottom Road, Halifax.

He was taken to hospital where he is recovering well from his ordeal.

Superintendent Owen West of Calderdale District Police, said: “We were growing very concerned for Granville so I am delighted to report a happy ending. On behalf of the Calderdale District and Adele Muir (Granville’s daughter) I would like to thank everyone who helped in the search. It truly was a team effort with everyone working together on behalf of a vulnerable missing man.

“The fact that we have been able to return Granville to his children and grand children is thanks to that effort and hard work, with people going above and beyond to help.”

More M62 woes. There’s one lane closed and queueing traffic due to a broken down car on the eastbound carriage in the roadworks area between junction 19 (Heywood) and junction 20 for Rochdale. This is affecting traffic from Manchester towards Huddersfield.

Batley drugs arrests

Three men have been arrested in Batley following a police sting.

The Operation Quartz team conducted an operation on Tuesday afternoon following concerns from members of the public in relation to drug-related activity.

A black VW Golf was seen around Warehouse Street, Batley, acting suspiciously and following a search, police arrested of three men aged 19, 21 and 22 from the area.

A quantity of Class A and B drugs, numerous mobile telephones and a substantial quantity of cash were seized.

The three men remain on bail pending further investigations.

Oh dear, more issues on the M621 at Gildersome but this time going eastbound. Traffic’s heavier than normal between leaving the M62 and junction 1, affecting journeys from Huddersfield to Leeds.
