Families are offered the chance to get on their bikes during the school summer holidays.

Free rides, guided by British Cycling trained ride leaders, are planned in Kirklees.

Sky Ride Local – set up by British Cycling, Sky and Kirklees Council – has organised the rides.

Helen Webster, British Cycling recreation manager for Kirklees, said: “Sky Ride Local bike rides are perfect for families and friends looking to get together and make the most of the great outdoors during the school holidays.

“In addition to our popular Sunday rides, there are some new mid-week rides for the school summer holidays that offer families a fun and free alternative to expensive days out, giving you the chance to explore scenic routes on your doorstep and get active.

“Plus our trained ride leaders are on hand to help you build your cycling confidence in a safe and friendly environment.”

Clr Viv Kendrick, Kirklees Council Cabinet member for health and activity, said: “Whatever your age or level of fitness, there will be a group ride for you. Cycling is a great way to get out in the fresh air, explore the local area and to feel good, healthier and more energised.

“There’s lots of support available on a group ride and it’s a great opportunity to meet new people.”
