A teenager has been locked up for four years after he was convicted of having sex with a schoolgirl who became pregnant.

The girl secretly had a termination and it was only after that came to light that police became involved.

At the time Aiden Clegg was 18 and the girl was 14.

Clegg, now 19 of Ruskin Grove, Sheepridge, was found guilty by a jury at Leeds Crown Court of offences of sexual activity with a child.

Sentencing him yesterday to four years in a young offender institution Judge Simon Phillips QC said he knew the girl’s age and that she was a virgin.

She did not object to what happened but the judge said because of her age: “She was unable to give informed consent.”

The judge said the girl was concerned Clegg had not used contraceptive protection but she maintained he had apparently told her he could not have children. “She was cruelly deceived,” he said.

When the girl realised she was pregnant she felt unable to tell her family and Clegg had gone with her as the adult when she had a termination, that had led to social service involvement and an investigation.

Judge Phillips said Clegg had shown utter disregard for the girl’s feelings. When he became aware the matter was under investigation he had even told her to lie for him.

He said throughout the trial Clegg had shown no remorse of the “grave wrong” he had done a young girl.

She had clearly suffered psychological damage saying she felt the situation “had destroyed her as a person” but was now receiving support.

Ian Brook, representing Clegg, said he had not used any influence on the girl to have a termination and he had told her she was too young for him.

Clegg was ordered to register as a sex offender indefinitely.
