Thousands of gig-goers were stranded outside the Etihad last night because their Foo Fighters tickets were rejected.

One fan who tweeted a picture of crowds stuck outside the venue said it was a 'shambles'.

Fans tweeted the band and lead singer Dave Grohl asking for help, the Manchester Evening News reports.

One fan called Susie wrote: "When hundreds of us for standing at @foofighters gig in Manchester are penned away because our tickets haven’t been sent through by @TicketmasterUK so angry and so sad. Been queuing for hours”.

She added: “Someone ask DaveGrohl to come help us all stuck outside here at etihad and we can’t get in. So damn upset. :’( foofighters TicketmasterUK hundreds of tickets aren’t scanning. Help us!!!!!!!!!”

Another fan, Georgia Jane Hulme wrote on Twitter: “Ticketmaster what a joke, hundreds of tickets not working for the foofighters - chaos.

“Hundreds of people stranded outside the concert. Tickets rejected, no organisation basically telling everyone to wait until resolved. We’ve been trying the ticket since 4.”

Others took to Twitter to say that thousands were stranded outside the venue.

Tweeting a picture of a long queue outside the ground, Lisa @AtkinsonLj wrote: "Still no closer to getting in to see DG & FF thanks to a technical issue between the etihad and ticketmaster #FooFighters #FooFightersEtihad #Ticketmaster #technologyfail

Images from outside the stadium later showed the queues had abated and fans were in the stadium for the headline act.

The promoters SJM concerts later said: “There was an initial problem with 2000 barcodes not scanning.

"Unfortunately due to human error, a percentage of barcodes provided by Ticketmaster for tonight’s Foo Fighters concert at Etihad did not work. This has been corrected and all fans are now able to get into the stadium.

"The problem is now resolved. Everyone is getting into the show and all gates have ran freely once the technical issue was resolved. This was not a Foo Fighters error and we sincerely apologise for any delays experienced by fans this evening, and will be contacting them directly in due course.”
