Shayegani, who also calls himself Speedo Shy, pleaded guilty to criminal damage at Kirklees Magistrates’ Court.

He became an Internet hit after pulling practical jokes on members of the public, filming their reactions and posting the footage online.

Shayegani has since amassed more than 90,000 Facebook fans keen to follow pranks that have included staging a rave on the checkouts of Asda in Huddersfield.

Late on July 13 he filmed himself popping a £160 balloon arch placed around the entrance of the university’s Central Services Building.

The display was for the university’s graduation ceremonies.

Vanessa Jones, prosecuting, said: “As part of the celebration the grounds had been decorated with flowers and balloons.

“This was for the families coming to celebrate the graduates and was meant to last the week.

“But on the first day at 10pm, Mr Shayegani used an implement to pop balloons on the arch.

“This was filmed by an unknown person and Mr Shayegani posted that onto his Facebook page.”

The film shows him laughing and showing a pair of scissors which he used to quickly pop the balloons.

He said that the prank was for ‘when you fail uni and you’re not welcomed to the graduation party’.

Shayegani than added: “I haven’t failed uni btw, just was craving to pop them balloons so bad.

“I’m a bad person I know, I will hand myself in today for being a balloon murderer sorry.”

The footage sparked a flurry of comments from followers, several of whom voiced their disgust.

One said: “What an idiot, you need to grow up. Do you know how much time and effort is put into making graduation go smoothly for the students graduating?

“I understand you’re into cheap laughs, but why do something that’s going to make someone else’s life more difficult.”

The court heard that Shayegani, of Brownroyd Avenue in Rawthorpe, went to the police station on July 17 and was arrested.

He claimed he didn’t have the funds to pay the damage - but said his nan was willing to stump up the cash.

Shayegani, who was not represented, said: “It was immature. I was in the moment and just having a laugh with my friends.

“I knew it was for the graduates and it was rude and disrespectful.”

What do you make of his prank?

Earlier this year and wearing only swimming trunks and hats, he and a pal made some noise at the tills in Asda before being escorted out.

In one town centre stunt he jumped into the back of a black Mercedes and forced to flee chased by three men.

In his previous hometown of Canterbury his filmed tricks included riding a mobility scooter around a supermarket and placing items in shoppers’ trollies while their backs are turned.
