POLICE swooped on a flat in Lindley and seized more than 100 cannabis plants.

The raid happened at 10.30am yesterday at a flat in Lindley Court in Wellington Street.

A 22-year-old man was subsequently arrested on suspicion of cultivating cannabis plants.

The plants were all in immature condition but once grown police have estimated could have a street value of around £35,000.

Neighbourhood Policing Inspector Mohammed Rauf said: “A warrant was issued for a property in Lindley Court, Wellington Street as a result of intelligence.

“This resulted in one arrest and the seizure of 100 immature cannabis plants.

“This result sends out the message that we will not tolerate drug supplying, possession and cultivation and will take action against anyone who carries out these activities.

“The community is vital to our fight against drugs and we rely on intelligence to help us tackle the problem.”

He added: “I would urge anyone who knows of suspicious activity to contact as immediately and we will act upon it.”

He confirmed Police Community Support Officers had been carrying out patrols in the area to reassure residents.

The latest raid comes two months after a separate police operation recovered around 2,500 cannabis plants during a raid in Mill Hill Lane, Brighouse.

West Yorkshire has seen a large number of cannabis farms and factories uncovered in the last two years.

In many cases, electricity systems have been diverted to power hydroponic growing equipment, which poses a big safety threat.
