FIREFIGHTERS were spending a second day at the scene of massive mill blaze today.

Crews from Huddersfield, Brighouse and Dewsbury joined more than 100 colleagues yesterday to battle the inferno which enveloped Clough Mills in Halifax Road, Shelf.

It started at car cleaning materials firm Decosol at lunchtime.

The building contained 30,000 aerosol cans and 60,000 litres of ethanol.

A number of homes had to be evacuated.

Two walls of the three-storey building collapsed, puncturing a tank containing methylated spirits.

Fire officer Martin Speed said it was the fastest-spreading fire he had seen.

He added: "There were concerns about tanks containing flamable liquid.

"These had to be cooled and one split when a wall collapsed."
