GREAT-grandmother Emily Burnett has celebrated her 100th birthday.

Emily, who lives at Thornhill Nursing Home in Edgerton, was thrilled to receive her birthday card from the Queen.

Emily was married twice.

She wed Harry Johnson in 1928 and they lived in Marsh and Oakes, where Harry became caretaker of the former Oakes Junior School.

He died in 1963 and they had one, son, Ronald, who is now 77 and lives in Skelmanthorpe.

Emily married John Burnett in 1971 and they lived in Birstall until he died eight years later.

Emily then moved back to Huddersfield and lived in Fartown.

She worked at the Post Office during the war and later at a transport firm in Paddock and then at Marsh Post Office.

She has four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
