HUDDERSFIELD people could win £1,000 by penning a poem about their town.

Publishing company United Press Ltd is running a competition called Local Poem, which is open to UK residents of all ages.

Entrants simply have to write a poem about life in their home town and send it off, free of charge.

They can send three entries, which must be no more than 20 lines or 160 words each.

The best poem will win £1,000 in cash.

The contest is designed to encourage people to be more creative and get involved in poetry.
