A BRIGHOUSE park is getting a £10,000 improvement boost.

Wellholme Park has been awarded the funding by the SITA Trust, an organisation that supports projects through its Landfill Community Fund.

The park’s picnic area at the Thornhill Beck side of the park will be given a makeover.

Mary Yates, chairman of the Build a Brighter Brighouse group, said: “We are thrilled that the picnic area at Wellholme Park will be improved.

“The site will be a great picnic area which will include new tables, bins, access paths and natural stone features.”

The park has already been awarded the prestigious Queen Elizabeth II Fields status, meaning it has a special level of protection to make sure communities and future generations will always have access too.

To qualify for the grant, volunteers will donate their time to enable the project to go ahead and will be completing some of the work themselves.

The Build a Brighter Brighouse group has spent time identifying the improvements which need to be made and will be involved to oversee the planned works as part of the improvement scheme.

Jools Granville, of the SITA Trust, said that over 2012 the group had invested more than £1m in public spaces.

He added: “We’ve also offered significant grants to improve community leisure facilities in Calderdale.”

It is hoped that the new facilities will ready in spring.
