RACHAEL Hattersley is joining the growing ranks of those volunteering as a mentor with the Yorkshire’s Youth Association.

The bank worker, 37, is the 1,000th volunteer and will be matched with a young person and meet them for two hours each week at Northorpe Hall, Mirfield.

Northorpe Hall Child and Family Trust works to support the emotional well-being and mental health of children and young people who are facing difficult life situations. The main service it provides is to provide support to children who care for a disabled sister, brother or adult and the Trust also provides counselling and mentoring.

Rachael will offer encouragement, support and helpful advice.

The Youth Association provides youth work across West and South Yorkshire.

Rachael said: “I’m just happy to be able to give something back to the community.

“Becoming the 1000th associate is all a bit of a surprise really, but it’s a nice surprise.”

Andy Clow, chief executive of the Youth Association wished her luck with her voluntary work: “I hope The Youth Association can keep supporting Rachael for as long as she stays in youth work.”

Tom Taylor, Northorpe Hall’s chief executive, said: “I’m really pleases that Rachael has become the lucky 1,000th associate of the Youth Association. All our volunteers deserve praise and thanks for the great work they do.”
