FAMILY and friends gathered to celebrate the 100th birthday of Evelyn Beevers.

Dozens of residents and relatives enjoyed a buffet lunch, singing and dancing at the party at Paddock Lodge Care Home in Huddersfield.

Ms Beevers said she had been thrilled to get her letter from the Queen and had enjoyed a fun day with all her guests. She said: “It was a very good party. It’s not so bad being 100, I don’t feel it.”

And Ms Beevers, who was born in 1910, the year George V became King, revealed the secret of her longevity was staying out of trouble.

She added: “I’ll tell you what I tell everybody, leave men alone for their own fun.”
