HUDDERSFIELD woman Annie Carter has celebrated her 100th birthday.
Mrs Carter, of Quarmby, reached her centenary yesterday.
She celebrated with a party for family and friends.
Mrs Carter was born in Fountain Street, Huddersfield but during her childhood she moved to her current home at Quarmby Road.
She moved to Marsh when she married husband Sydney 70 years ago.
He died almost 50 years ago, about the same as Mrs Carter's mother.
After her mother's death, she moved back to the family home in Quarmby to look after her younger brother.
Mrs Carter was the second eldest of five children, with two brothers and two sisters.
She left school at 13 to work as a weaver in Blamires Mill on Leeds Road.
She left there to work as a winder at James Shires' mill at Milnsbridge.
Mrs Carter had no children but had three nieces, two nephews, eight great-nieces and great-nephews and five great-great-nieces and nephews.
