ONE of Huddersfield’s oldest people has celebrated a landmark birthday.

Marsden woman Annie Varley has just turned 105.

She was born in the village on July 4, 1906 and lived there for the next 100 years.

Annie worked as a weaver and was married to Fred Varley for 40 years.

She was an active member of Marsden Congregational Church and used to accompany blind people on days out.

Annie lived on Woods Avenue and Wessen Court before moving to Meadow Court Care Home in Slaithwaite five years ago.

The home’s activity co-ordinator Lesley Balmforth said: “It’s certainly a good age.

“Annie’s a very loveable lady. She loves telling stories and watching sport on TV”.
