ANOTHER Linthwaite mill could be converted into flats.

Plans have been submitted to Kirklees Council to transform redundant Westwood Mills at Low Westwood Lane into 108 homes.

Surrey-based Michael Wilson Restorations, which converted award-winning Barkisland Mill in Calderdale, has applied for listed building consent to partially demolish, convert and build at the mill site.

It is just 300 yards away from the massive Titanic Mills, which is itself undergoing conversion into apartments.

John Bresnahan, joint owner and director of Michael Wilson Restorations, said the plans included the development of five cosy and intimate connecting courtyards.

He said the ambitious plans included the restoration of the original mill pond. The development would also include an exposed water wheel, returning to the mill's heritage.

He said facilities within the development would include a swimming pool, steam room, sauna and gym - all for the exclusive use of residents.

He said the site next to the Huddersfield Narrow Canal would give the development a beautiful setting.

If the scheme is given the go-ahead, the first phase of the conversion should begin during July or August.

Mr Bresnahan said the first phase could take around 18 months to complete before moving on to phase two and three.

The overall scheme could take up to four years to complete.

The conversion includes a mixture of one, two and three- bedroom apartments, ranging in price from £125,000 to £350,000.
