ONE of Huddersfield Royal Infirmary's least- known wards has received a cash boost.

Staff at the Crossroads charity fundraising shop in Meltham decided to give money to the colo-rectal department after it helped two of its volunteers.

The department deals with conditions affecting the colon and rectum.

Shirley Watson and Glenda Yates were both operated on by surgeon Judith Salaman.

Mrs Yates's husband, Jack, raised £100 by giving proceeds from a book of poetry he has written. The total came to more than £1,100.

The money may be used for research, but a final decision has not yet been made.
