THE future of a controversial community centre will be decided in a study funded by Kirkburton Parish Council.

The council voted to spend £5,900 to research the feasibility of the new centre planned for Back Lane, Grange Moor, at a meeting on September.

Subject to findings of the study, a further £5,875 will be released for a business plan and fundraising consultancy report.

The proposed centre sparked fierce debate in June, when it received the go-ahead by a six to six vote pushed through by sub-committee chairman Clr Paul Kane’s casting vote.

Former Kirkburton parish councillor Roy Dobson has led the complaints.

He said the new centre would increase anti-social behaviour and be out of keeping with houses on Back Lane.
