BUS stops are growing in Huddersfield.

One monster stop has appeared on Waterloo Rise in Waterloo - and others across the area are set to follow.

For Metro has revealed that bus stops in West Yorkshire now have a new standard size - 37 metres, which is just over 121ft.

A Metro spokesman said it was working closely with the five main councils in the county, including Kirklees.

When they are improving roads they now paint the new monster stops on the road.

The spokesman said: "It makes it a lot safer for buses and more comfortable for the passengers.

"The kerbs are also raised at the stop, so passengers have a smaller step down.

"Motorists are not allowed to park in the marked bus stops or set down or pick up people. So buses will have a smoother run, both into the stop and when they are leaving it."

The stops are large enough for the big "bendy" buses which operate in Leeds and Bradford.

The standard bus stop size used to be 19 metres (62ft).

Typical buses are almost 40ft long.
