DEWSBURY Sports Centre will have a major facelift to the tune of almost £1.4million.

The work, which begins in March, will centre on the swimming pool and its changing rooms and the health suite.

The changes will result in a unisex main area with individual and family changing cubicles, provision for people with disabilities, new general showers and some individual shower cubicles.

There will also be a separate ladies changing room with its own showers, for added privacy.

A £255,000 health suite will be created with a brand new sauna, steam room and spa pool with air jets.

There will be new ceilings, floors and wall coverings.

During the work the centre will be partly closed from March 14 until July.

But the gym, sports hall, squash courts, bar and function areas will all be open as usual.

Simon Toon, Dewsbury Sports Centre operations manager, said: "This is an extremely exciting project for the centre, which will take its facilities firmly into the 21st century."
