THREE Kirklees arts projects have received more than £15,000 in lottery money.

Marsden Jazz Festival, Slaithwaite-based Satellite Arts and Samantha Bryan, of Mirfield, were given the cash in the latest round of grants from the Arts Council England.

The jazz festival got £6,000 to develop its programme of activities for young musicians and experimental music.

Performing arts partnership Satellite Arts received £5,000. They plan to create a new educational CD called Orbit to accompany performances in Yorkshire. It will include songs, stories and music.

They also want to upgrade music and recording equipment to improve workshops for young people.

Visual artist Samantha Bryan was awarded £4,935. She wants to use the cash to take her award-winning sculptures to the Origin craft fair in London.

The three projects were among 32 in Yorkshire and Humberside to receive more than £370,000 from Arts Council England.

Executive director Andy Carver said: “These lottery awards will support a wide range of arts activity across the region, opening up new opportunities for people and communities to participate in and experience the arts.”
