A 16-year-old girl was grabbed by a man in Fartown who tried to steal her mobile phone.

It happened as the girl was walking along a cycle path from Abbey Road towards Red Doles Road at around 8.20am on Monday.

She was approached by a man who asked to borrow her mobile phone but when she refused he grabbed hold of her and searched her.

Fortunately a member of the public approached and the suspect fled towards Abbey Road.

The suspect is mixed race, around 25-30-years-old, around 6ft 3 and slim. He has a black afro hair style and had dark stubble on his chin and wore grey jogging bottoms and a grey hooded top.

Det Con Andy Clayton from Huddersfield CID, said: “We are appealing for witnesses to this offence and in particular the passer-by who we think may have seen what happened.

“I would urge anyone in the area around Abbey Road between 8.15am and 8.30am who saw anyone acting suspiciously to come forward. Enquiries are ongoing.”
