COMMUNITY projects have been given a £1m injection by councillors.

The money was set aside for the Kirklees Council's Better Borough Development Fund by councillors at yesterday's meeting.

The fund covers a range of services, including the Young People's Service, Pride in Yorkshire and the Homestart project.

The fund also includes improvements to small town and village centres, landscaping improvements and increased street cleaning.

The councillors' `wish list' of ways to improve life for local people was granted as part of this year's budget.

A total of £4m over two years has been set aside to for more improvements to roads, pavements and street lighting.
