BUSINESSMAN Azam Yaqoob has won extra time to save his £1m mansion from demolition.

He has gained an extra 21 days in which to lodge an appeal after being ordered to rip down his dream home because it was built without planning permission.

Kirklees Council has extended the period because several interested parties are involved.

Mr Yaqoob, 36, and his family have yet to move into the house in Huddersfield Road, Mirfield.

The nine-bedroomed home towers above surrounding properties.

Mr Yaqoob, who owns Mr Sparkles car wash at Webster Hill, Dewsbury, bought the former mock Tudor house in 2003 for £293,000.

He was given permission to make some alterations but knocked most of the original building down and rebuilt.

Councillors went against the advice of their planning officials last month and refused to give him retrospective planning permission.

Mr Yaqoob then vowed to take on the council in "every court in the land".

The revised enforcement notice is due to run out on March 24. Council officials say they have yet to receive any appeal in writing.
