A house builder has got approval for 20 new homes in Golcar.

Jones Homes (Northern) Ltd was given the go-ahead to build on land to the rear of 300 Leymoor Road.

The new development site, formerly a garage, will be accessed from an existing development known as the Picture House.

Plans show the homes will be a mix of semi-detached and detached properties.

Overall 34 people objected to the plans on highways, visual amenity and impact on local schools, doctors and dentists.

Colne Valley MP Jason McCartney also opposed, saying Leymoor Road is already busy and the new housing will add to the problems.

Plans show the site is allocated for housing, but 3 metres of the site lies within the greenbelt and Kirklees has ruled that is not to be built on and it will remain open.

Clr Jean Calvert said: “Affordable housing is important. Can we have that as an addendum instead of the £56,000 towards public open space?”

She later withdrew the request after hearing it may not cover a house or it may be spent elsewhere.

It was approved by nine votes against five.
