ALMOST 200 armed forces veterans from across Dewsbury and Mirfield joined local MP Shahid Malik and Veterans Minister Derek Twigg at Dewsbury Town Hall.
The event was held to mark their contribution to the country.
The occasion was organised by Mr Malik, who is patron of the Royal British Legion in Dewsbury, to thank local people who had served their country.
He said: “The great sacrifices made by our veterans and those currently involved in military conflict around the world on behalf of their country must never be forgotten.
“Nor must we forget or take for granted those millions of civilians, including many women, who played a vital role in past conflicts and indeed are today.”
Maureen Tierney, a former Wren, helped at the event. She said: “It was a fantastic occasion and I know that everybody left the Town Hall with a smile on their face, thanks to Mr Malik and Mr Twigg.”
Mr Twigg said: “It was a great turnout and a great success.
“It was my privilege to speak to so many veterans who have given so much for our country.”
