Teacher Jill Metcalfe was hoping her hero Gary Barlow would be in attendance on her last day at school.
Sadly the pop superstar failed to show up to help Jill celebrate her retirement from Highburton C E First School after 39 years’ teaching.
But Jill wasn’t too disappointed - as when she arrived at her special leaver’s assembly she was greeted by 200 pupils wearing Gary masks and singing Greatest Day Of Your Life, one of his most famous songs.
School business manager Janet Clapham said: “Each class did a special piece – a song, play, prayer, especially for Jill.
“There was a staff tea party at lunchtime and lots of lovely presents from children, staff, friends and parents. We wish her every happiness in retirement.
“Gary... maybe next time?”
