A COMPETITOR in the London triathlon has presented the £2,200 he raised to a hospice in memory of his mother.

Jody Wainwright, 24, of Gawthorpe, near Ossett, handed the money to Kirkwood Hospice, Dalton, where his mother Margaret died two years ago. He is pictured handing over the cheque and displaying his medal to hospice auxiliary nurse Christine McGrath.

Mr Wainwright, originally from Dewsbury, even delayed his honeymoon to complete the running, swimming and cycling event on August 1.

He married Natalie in July, but waited until August 2 to jet off and celebrate the wedding.

Natalie said: "It was important to him as the charity is close to his heart. We want to thank everyone who gave him sponsorship."

Mr Wainwright, who works as a construction supervisor at Heathrow Airport's Terminal 5, also took part in the triathlon last year for Cancer Research UK.
