MORE than 2,500 people have already signed up for Huddersfield’s Race for Life.

The biggest women-only 5k run will take place in Huddersfield on the weekend of June 27 and 28.

Organisers say the response so far has been great, but they are calling for more groups of women to sign up.

Last year’s event took place at Greenhead Park when almost 6,000 women raised more than £315,000 for Cancer Research.

The money has been put back into research, which has led to Huddersfield lung cancer patients trial testing a new drug called Tarceva.

Event manager Imogen Johnson said: “So far we’ve had more than 2,500 applications which is brilliant.

“But we can take 6,000 women over the three races on the two days so we’d love to see even more women down here.”

This year’s Race for Life takes place at the Leeds Road Playing Fields and organisers are putting on a bus from the town centre to the race track as parking is restricted over the Saturday and Sunday.

Imogen added: “I think everyone who has done the race before is quite excited about the new venue.

“But to help everyone get there we’ve joined forces with First Bus and there will be a park and ride to the race.”
