VILLAGES and small towns are to receive cash boosts.
The Cabinet yesterday pledged £2m over the next five years to improve small centres.
Batley Church Yard will receive £80,000 this year, with £60,000 going to Honley Park and £60,000 to Holmfirth.
Places to benefit in later years will include Almondbury, Milnsbridge, Lepton, Skelmanthorpe and Kirkburton.
The Conservative-run Cabinet agreed to a Lib Dem proposal to improve small centres in Kirklees.
Cabinet member Clr Donald Firth said: “We want to bring more life to our small villages to make them look better.”
Cleckheaton Lib Dem councillor Andrew Pinnock welcomed the money.
He said: “Investment in our town and village centres has numerous benefits for local people and the area as a whole.
“On a very obvious level having well-maintained and attractive village or town centres gives people a sense of pride about where they come from.
“I know that people from across Kirklees have great attachment to their small town and village centres and if a place slips downhill it can take the community with it,” he added.
