FIREFIGHTERS in West Yorkshire had 30% more call-outs during the festive season than last year.

Over 15 days during December and the start of the new year, they turned out to more than 1,300 incidents – 300 up on 2009-2010.

There were 192 fires involving people or property and 230 special service calls such as road accidents.

Flooding as ice and snow thawed lead to 60 calls on December 22 and 30 on Christmas Day.
