MORE than 400 cannabis plants were found at a house at Ainley Top.

Police acting on a tip-off raided a house on West Lodge Crescent on Thursday afternoon.

Police are not putting a value on the drugs, but research shows that they could be worth as much as £100,000.

And these pictures show the haul they discovered – four rooms of wall to wall cannabis plants.

A police spokeswoman described the number of plants as “substantial” and said police had been unable to find the tenant of the property.

A spokeswoman for West Yorkshire Police said: “Following a tip off from a member of the public, officers from Calderdale division have uncovered a suspected drugs factory operating from a residential address in Ainley Top, Huddersfield.

“Officers seized more than 400 suspected cannabis plants from four rooms within the property, as well as hydroponics equipment.

“The plants have now been sent for forensic analysis and enquiries are currently ongoing.”

It is believed that four rooms of the house were wall to wall with the illegal plants.

Police confirmed that two living rooms, the dining room and a bedroom all contained hundreds of the illegal Class B plants.

As well as the drugs, police discovered hydroponic equipment wired into the mains electricity.

The tenants were not in the property at the time the house was raided and officers are making steps to trace them through the landlord, who is believed to have discovered the haul.

In recent years huge ‘cannabis factories’ – some growing drugs with a street value of £250,000 – have been uncovered in Huddersfield.

In 2008 Kirklees police found 98 cannabis factories out of 520 for the county.

While last month Kirklees police conducted a series of raids on suspected drug dealers.

Police are appealing for information about the latest find, and anyone who can help is asked to contact Det Sgt Ross Wadsworth in Calderdale CID on 01422 337085.
