A society celebrating 40 years has got the mayoral seal of approval.

Greater Elland Historical Society is next month hosting its 40th anniversary meeting and Mayor of Calderdale, Clr Pat Allen, will attend.

And the mayor, also a ward member for Elland, has already been finding out more about the work of the Society.

Earlier this month she attended the Greater Elland Historical Society’s WWI Commemoration at St Mary’s Parish Church, Elland.

Chairman Tim Patterson welcomed members and guests to the exhibition.

The 40th anniversary meeting takes place at 7.15pm on September 10 at Elland WMC, with a specially commissioned birthday cake from Elland baker Lippylicious.

There will be a powerpoint presentation about its history, Loraine Lodge has devised a 1974 quiz and there’s clippings of local news to jog memories.

The society’s history room is open every Tuesday and Thursday at the town’s library from 2-4pm, run by volunteers.

Greater Elland Historical Society hold regular meetings from September to May at Elland Working Men’s Club on the second Wednesday of every month at 7.10pm.
