A marsh-based boxing organisation is staging its second fight to raise cash for Kirkwood Hospice.

Left Jab Promotions aims to repeat the success of a match in June which raised a staggering £9,029.

Boxing 4 Kirkwood Round 2 will see 44 novice boxers enter the ring before a 600-strong crowd on Saturday, September 3, at the Apna Venue, next to the Sikh Centre in Prospect Street, Huddersfield.

Contestants have been receiving eight weeks of training from organiser Sean Reynolds at Left Jab’s Functional Fit gym at Marsh Mills.

Sean said: “While we are definitely new on the scene of charity boxing matches we have certainly raised the standard of local white collar boxing.

“I chose to support Kirkwood as my later grandfather, Joseph Curtis, was due to be moved into the hospice and it had always been his wish to spend his final days there because it was such a special place to him and my family.

“Unfortunately he passed away before making it to Kirkwood but the hospice has always held an important place in our lives.’’

Sean said that the first boxing match for Kirkwood was so successful he had been inundated with new enquiries from people wanting to take part in another one.

“Several of the guys who took part in Round 1 enjoyed themselves so much that they are entering again,’’ added Sean.

Hospice fundraiser Liam Halligan said: “I was so inspired by the standard of the show that I have signed up for Round 2 myself.

“It costs Kirkwood £16,500 per day to operate and more than 70% of this comes from voluntary donations from the public so the support of our local community is vital.’’

Tickets are still available for Boxing 4 Kirkwood Round 2 price £20.
