A TIRELESS couple from Marsden are celebrating their golden wedding.
And they’re both still working!
Norman and Margaret Martin both work as volunteers in the Cuckoo’s Nest charity shop, which raises money for the community in Marsden.
Introduced to each other by Norman’s mother, they married on November 23 1957 in Hebden Bridge. Sadly the wedding photos didn’t come out, so they have no pictures of their happy day.
They moved to Marsden in 1962 where they settled and had seven children, four boys and three girls.
After they moved to the area, Norman spent 13 years working for David Brown Engineering in Lockwood, then moved to Kays Iron Foundry at Thornton Lodge, where he stayed until his retirement in 1997.
Margaret held various jobs in the area including Kilburn’s Bakery and Marsden Picture House, and she too retired in 1997.
Never ones to sit still, they both now work as volunteers at the Cuckoo’s Nest charity shop.
They are celebrating with a party at Marsden Liberal Club.
