PEOPLE will have a chance to find out what volunteering is all about at a roadshow touring Kirklees.

A bus is travelling around the district next week showing people the many ways in which they can volunteer in jobs - from helping charities to working with the police.

June 1 to June 7 is annual Volunteers Week and Volunteering Kirklees has been lent the bus by Huddersfield Giants so they can get out and about.

The bureau, in Lord Street, Huddersfield, has almost 500 volunteering opportunities available.

People will have the chance to chat to representatives from voluntary organisations who will be on the bus.

Organiser Sharron Wilkinson said: "We want to get out there into the community and one way of doing this was to take the show on the road.

"We have goodie bags to distribute and will be talking to people about volunteering.

"The aim of the event is to celebrate the efforts of the 21 million people currently volunteering nationally and to show people how varied voluntary work can be, and how they can make a difference at a local level."

The bus will be at the following locations each day from 10am to 4pm.

* Wednesday, June 1, Holmfirth Co-operative.

* Thursday, June 2, Yorkshire Mill Village, Batley.

* Friday, June 3, Huddersfield Bus Station.

* Monday, June 6, Ikea superstore in Birstall.

* Tuesday, June 7, Morrisons in Heckmondwike.
