BRADLEY couple James and Eileen Cooper have celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary.

The couple from Couford Grove met in Greenhead Park and married at St Brigid’s RC Church in Paddock.

Mr Cooper, 82 served with the Gordon Highlanders as an infantryman in France and Germany during the Second World War. He served his apprenticeship as a cabinet maker with Taylor and Hobson in Chapel Hill and then worked in joinery at Stephenson Developments in Linthwaite for 30 years. He retired from Piper Buildings at Lockwood after working there for around 12 years.

Mrs Cooper worked as a weaver and then brought up the couple’s two sons. They also have four grandchildren, five great grandchildren and two step grandsons.

The couple are celebrating with a family party on Saturday.

They both enjoy gardening and Mr Cooper is a keen sports fan. Mrs Cooper enjoys jigsaws and crosswords.
