POLICE have seized cannabis plants worth £90,000.

Officers swooped at a house on Richmond Road in Hanging Heaton, Batley, at around 4pm on Wednesday after a tip-off. They found more than 300 plants.

The cannabis factory spanned over separate rooms. Several lighting units and ventilation systems were found and the electricity supply had also been diverted.

It is the latest in a spate of high-profile raids at cannabis factories across Kirklees. Some of the factories have been growing plants with an estimated street value of over £1/4m.

Inquiries are ongoing to trace the people who had been living there.

Batley and Birstall Neighbourhood Policing Team Insp Neil Money said: “Over the last six months we have had a number of successes in relation to suspected cannabis factories. This is down to the hard work of the Neighbourhood Policing Team coupled with the support and response of members of the public.

"We need the people of Kirklees to be our eyes and ears. Cannabis factories can emit a strong and unusual smell, and neighbours may hear noises whilst a factory is being set up. They may also see people with bags and other equipment such as powerful lights.

“It is likely curtains will be kept closed, but bright lights may appear to be left on around the clock.

"I would also particularly like to appeal to landlords to be aware of what to look for. If the tenant always pays in cash and does not allow you access to the property then let us check it out.”
